How to Perform a Basic Wallet Audit on Base

A practical process for reviewing holdings, permissions, and unfamiliar transactions.

Why this matters on Base

A basic wallet audit should be read-only first. Review balances and transaction history, then investigate unfamiliar contracts before taking any action.

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 environment with its own network balances, applications and token representations.

Base is part of the Ethereum scaling ecosystem. The same ticker can exist on Ethereum and on Base as separate token contracts, so a balance seen on one network cannot be assumed to exist, or to be redeemable at the same value, on the other.

Base: what to pay attention to

  • Assets and tokens: Verify the token contract on Base and do not rely on ticker or logo alone.
  • Costs: Consider Base transaction costs together with bridge and route costs when moving small balances.
  • Security: Use trusted interfaces and verify destination network and token before signing.

A Base checklist for this topic

  • Keep a simple record of what you reviewed on Base, so the next checkup starts from a known state.
  • Never enter a seed phrase or private key into a scanning or recovery site, including for Base.
  • Leave a balance alone when the cost of moving it from Base exceeds what you would receive.
  • Confirm the wallet address and that you are viewing Base before interpreting any balance.
The goal of a wallet cleanup is not to move everything. It is to make informed decisions about what is safe and economical to move.

Bridge from Base

Consider Base transaction costs together with bridge and route costs when moving small balances. On the Optimism side: verify the Optimism contract address for the asset you intend to move.

The bridge guide below is informational; any transaction depends on current network conditions and the route shown in the bridge interface.
