Wallet Security Basics for Everyday Web3 on Base
A straightforward security checklist covering approvals, contract addresses, signing, and backups.
Why this matters on Base
Good wallet security is mostly about reducing avoidable signing mistakes. A read-only balance check should never require a seed phrase, and unfamiliar approvals deserve extra scrutiny.
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 environment with its own network balances, applications and token representations.
Base is part of the Ethereum scaling ecosystem. The same ticker can exist on Ethereum and on Base as separate token contracts, so a balance seen on one network cannot be assumed to exist, or to be redeemable at the same value, on the other.
Base: what to pay attention to
- Security: Use trusted interfaces and verify destination network and token before signing.
- Assets and tokens: Verify the token contract on Base and do not rely on ticker or logo alone.
- Costs: Consider Base transaction costs together with bridge and route costs when moving small balances.
A Base checklist for this topic
- Send a small test amount first when an address or route on Base is new to you.
- Verify the contract address on Base from an independent source rather than a ticker or a logo.
- Read what a Base transaction or signature request actually authorizes before approving it.
- Treat unexpected tokens or links that appear in a Base wallet as untrusted until verified.
Bridge from Base
Consider Base transaction costs together with bridge and route costs when moving small balances. On the Optimism side: verify the Optimism contract address for the asset you intend to move.
The bridge guide below is informational; any transaction depends on current network conditions and the route shown in the bridge interface.
